If you are a high school student, then you should plan on having productive and enriching summers. This not only helps build character and maturity, but it also demonstrates a commitment to working hard when your resume and college application is reviewed by an admissions committee. Every year, parents in Williamson and Davidson county ask me what their child should be doing during the summer time. And often, the plans that they tell me their child has in mind typically falls short of what my recommendation would be. As a private college admissions coach to Brentwood, TN, Franklin, TN, and Nashville, TN students, I am acutely aware of the wonderful opportunities available to students in our community. Students looking to attend highly rigorous colleges with low admission rates will be expected to demonstrate how they have been spending each summer in high school. It’s easy to put off summer plans until a student’s junior or senior year. That is a mistake that should be avoided. If you need college admission help, then continue reading below.

Summer should be spent enhancing one’s resume. Internships, volunteer work, research opportunities, college courses (also known as dual enrollment), employment, and academic enrichment are all ways in which a student can build upon their resume. A committee wants to see what a student does outside of a classroom. If it looks like nothing, then that’s not going to sit well during the decision-making process. There are key themes that an applicant needs to get across in their college application. The resume and the personal statement are excellent places to demonstrate this. If you need help brushing up on your writing, then college essay help is available.

In addition to participating in enriching activities like the ones mentioned above, summer break should also be a time for students to begin or continue test prep.
